Art is a Full Time Job

Winterthur Geese
As I drive through Chester County the thought comes to my mind "I drive through paintings. " I really do. This area, especially at this time of year (fall), is a painting at every turn. I was lucky enough to get juried into the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition this October. The weather could not have been more perfect. And the locations!!!! Painting at Frolic Weymouth's chapel in the woods was special to me. Having grown up in close to the Radnor Hunt Club and Devon Horse Show, I have been very familiar with Frolic. He was instrumental in not only preserving a great deal of the lands I love but also helped found the Brandywine River Museum, a favorite haunt of mine.
The competition took up an entire week from sunrise to sunset culminating in a show on Friday. This time of year is really busy with shows, since we are getting near the gift giving time. I am currently in three shows with another just around the bend. I love doing shows but there is a great deal of time and energy in doing them. Jurying, dropping off work, picking up work, prepping the paintings, making lists (and checking them twice), spreading the word on social media, and more. I have to say the best part of all this is meeting new art friends and catching up with friends I have lost touch with over time. I just wish that financially it all made sense.
Do what you love and the $$ will follow, right?! Well, not yet for me, anyway. Not much will stop me from painting, and certainly not because I am not making enough money at it.
Onward and upward!
Or Tally Ho!
Hope to see you soon.
